In January 2022, Chinese mainland registered 312745 locally-made new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs), an increase of 115 percent over the same period last year.

However, compared with the previous month, the monthly nepv registration decreased by 35 percent , mainly due to the cooling of the automobile market before the Spring Festival holiday.

To be specific, homegrown NEPV registrations in January includes 240702 battery electric vehicles (BEVS) and 72041 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), including 14325 extended range electric vehicles (REEVS) and 2 fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).

In January 2022, seven key start-ups, including Tesla, faced month on month declines. Among them, the U.S. - based electric vehicle manufacturer had the largest decline in sales, but it still surpassed all competitors of Chinese start-ups. Compared with the ranking a month ago, Xpeng and Li Auto are still the top two new energy vehicle start-ups in China, while NIO surpassed HOZON automobile and won the second place.

In response to China's nev subsidy policy, Tesla announced at the end of December that it would impact the price of RWD versions of Model 3 and Model Y However, since frequent price changes have been regarded as a typical measure of Tesla, it is difficult to assess the impact of price increases on sales.
